In order to encourage housing estates to deal with the problem of litter and to increase biodiversity, our housing estates liaison officer, Grace Dunne, encourages local residents associations to take part in the annual Greyhound competitions (read more about it below). She also arranges for small STT groups to come to help and advise residents with clean ups and planting polllinator plants.
We also advise housing estate groups on how to organise their own clean up day. Regularly a few of our members will attend one of these sessions to provide practical help.

Searching for Swords tidiest estate
In August 2018 Swords Tidy Towns started running a Tidy Estates Competition which is sponsored by Greyhound Household waste management. Our coordinator for this event is Grace Dunne. The competition is judged by two STT volunteers and one member of Greyhound Household. Estates receive marks for the upkeep of common areas, houses and gardens. The winning estate received a voucher of €500 for use on common areas, a free skip and a plaque to display at the entrance to their estate. In 2019 we have introduced a prize for the most improved estate.
